Ruben Amorim has given Omar Berrada the go-ahead for Manchester United’s transfer strategy ahead of the 2025 summer window, which is shaping up to be one of the most significant in the club’s history.

Despite Amorim’s preferred 3-4-2-1 formation, his system offers flexibility, allowing room for adjustments.

Since taking over from Erik ten Hag last November, the Portuguese coach has wasted no time in implementing the approach that brought him success at Sporting Lisbon.

United were eager to appoint a manager who could establish a recognizable playing style after their performances under Ten Hag had become inconsistent and chaotic.

Even before Amorim’s appointment was finalized, discussions took place about how United’s lineup would adapt to his tactical philosophy.

In the early weeks of his tenure, predicting the starting XI was a challenge due to United’s relentless fixture schedule.

A full pre-season and a summer transfer window will allow Amorim to build his first-choice XI. However, with the demands placed on modern players, rotation and tactical tweaks will continue to play a key role.

To achieve success, alignment in recruitment strategy will be vital. Chief executive Omar Berrada recently provided insight into the club’s approach for the upcoming transfer window.

“I think it’s riskier if you have a coach that doesn’t have a clear idea of how he wants to play,” said Berrada. “And with Ruben we don’t see that risk.

“And when it comes to our recruitment strategy, without commenting too much, the idea we have is to be able to bring in versatile players that can be adaptable to multiple systems.

“And ultimately Ruben himself has said it, it’s not about the 3-4-3 tactical formation, it’s about an idea, a concept of how he wants to see the team playing. He wants to see the team playing more on the front foot, more of a possession, attacking-based style of football.

“So for that, you need players that can play in multiple positions that can adapt to that vision that Ruben has. And this is what we’re going to try to do over the next years in our recruitment.”

United embraced this approach last summer with the signing of Noussair Mazraoui. Initially brought in as a right-back, he has since demonstrated his adaptability by playing in various positions, including left-back, center-back, wing-back, and even attacking midfield.

Mazraoui’s versatility epitomizes the type of players United are looking to attract. His ability to seamlessly switch roles highlights the club’s emphasis on multi-functional footballers.

Several other players have also adapted to different roles under Amorim. Diogo Dalot, Leny Yoro, Christian Eriksen, Kobbie Mainoo, Bruno Fernandes, Alejandro Garnacho, Amad, and Joshua Zirkzee have all showcased flexibility in their positions.

Fernandes, Mainoo, and Eriksen have each played as deep-lying midfielders as well as in more advanced No.10 roles. Garnacho and Amad have been tested as wing-backs and attacking midfielders.

While Garnacho struggled in the wing-back role, Amad quickly adapted to its demands, proving its importance in Amorim’s system.

This level of adaptability is already a key aspect of Amorim’s tactical setup, reinforcing why he aligns with the club’s vision of recruiting versatile players.

In the mid-season window, he brought in Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven, with Dorgu demonstrating his ability to play as a left wing-back, right wing-back, and even a left-sided center-back.

As unique as Amorim’s system may be, it provides the flexibility to adjust personnel in ways that benefit the team.

To fully implement his philosophy, United must continue to prioritize players who can thrive in multiple roles.

Motta failed to establish a strong connection with the squad, particularly with senior players, many of whom felt alienated. “Danilo’s unsavoury treatment” serves as a prime example of his inability to manage player relationships effectively.

Additionally, Motta did not maintain good rapport within the club, struggling to communicate with both the locker room and the backroom staff.

The second major issue was the inconsistent handling of the captain’s armband. This constant rotation created confusion and uncertainty within the squad.

Eventually, Motta settled on “Manuel Locatelli” as captain, but not before frustrating several players, including “Federico Gatti,” who started the season as skipper.

However, he was later overlooked in favor of “Weston McKennie” and others, causing further unrest.

Ultimately, Juventus’ poor performances on the pitch were the most decisive factor. With the club now at risk of missing out on “Champions League” qualification, the financial repercussions could be catastrophic.

Faced with this looming threat, the board felt they had no choice but to act swiftly.

Juventus’ decision to part ways with “Motta” reflects their urgency to salvage the season and secure their place among Europe’s elite once again.

As the Championship season enters its final stretch following the last international break of 2024/25, the race for automatic promotion is heating up.

Burnley are pushing to break into the top two, battling Leeds United and Sheffield United for a coveted spot in the Premier League.

Currently sitting third, Burnley are chasing Daniel Farke’s Leeds and Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United, who have maintained a relentless pace at the top.

Leeds have held first place for “16 matchdays in a row” heading into the international break, despite a recent dip in form, winning just one of their last four matches. Their upcoming fixture against Swansea City will be crucial in maintaining momentum.

Peach elaborated on his reasoning: “I just think they draw too many games. Defensively, it sets them up very nicely to be an automatic promotion contender which they are.”

“But I think you need a killer instinct to push for the top two, and it’s not something we have seen regularly enough this season for Burnley.”

He pointed to past promotion-winning teams as an example: “Just for example, you look at Ipswich last season [and] how often did they score late in a game to win it? That’s the sort of thing I’m talking about.”

Peach emphasized that while Burnley’s defensive structure is strong, their tendency to settle for draws may cost them: “It’s not a negative, but I think just looking at how many draws they’ve had, it tells you that. They’ve had 15.”

With just eight games remaining, Burnley will need to find that winning edge if they are to leapfrog Leeds or Sheffield United and secure automatic promotion.

Dilks expanded on that with his own explanation. He said: “The first thing for me is that I just think the other two are better; if we are boiling it down to as simple as that, then I think that’s the case.

“Leeds have the edge in terms of their squad. Sheffield United have the edge in terms of the manager. As we have said numerous times, he has been like the Chris Wilder of old this season.

“They [Burnley] can find themselves coming unstuck very easily. In terms of their remaining fixtures, they have got the hardest games based on league position out of the sides chasing automatics.

“Burnley are well in this race I would by no means rule them out of getting automatically promoted I just simply fancy the other two more than this Burnley side.”
