Arteta tells Gunners to “go full gas” in quest for Carabao Cup final

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has called upon his squad to give their all as they prepare to take on Newcastle United in the crucial second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday. With a two-goal deficit to overturn, the Gunners face an uphill challenge but remain hopeful of reaching their first final in this competition since 2018.
A Tough Road Ahead
The first leg at the Emirates Stadium did not go as planned for Arsenal. Despite dominating possession and creating numerous opportunities, their failure to convert chances proved costly. Newcastle, on the other hand, capitalized on Arsenal’s wastefulness with clinical finishing that saw them secure a comfortable lead heading into the second leg at St. James’ Park.
Arteta’s men, however, will enter the fixture with renewed confidence, having recorded four consecutive victories, including a resounding 5-1 triumph over reigning Premier League champions Manchester City on Sunday. That emphatic performance has reignited belief within the squad, providing them with momentum as they set their sights on overturning Newcastle’s advantage.
The Importance of the Fixture
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Arteta expressed his confidence that his players fully understand the significance of the occasion.
“The next stop is a final in Wembley so we know how big that is and you can feel it, you can feel it straight away,” he said.
The Spaniard acknowledged that the morale in the camp has significantly improved since the disappointment of the first-leg defeat, thanks to a string of impressive performances.
“The boost that the game gave us winning against City, the manner that we did it and the fact that it is a game that is the closest competition we are to a final, we’re going to give it a real go.”
Full Gas Approach
Arteta made it clear that his side will leave no stone unturned as they push for a place in the final.
“Probably when you compare the emotional state of the team straight after the defeat and the manner that it happened and how we are today, it’s very different because we come from very strong performances, some great wins and especially the last one at home against Man City.”
He added, “So it’s momentum and after that game as well we have a break so it’s a moment to go full gas, ready to go for it and try to approach it in the way that we believe is the best way to win that final.”
Familiar Foes
Arteta is well aware of the challenge that Newcastle presents. The Magpies emerged victorious in their last Premier League encounter at St. James’ Park in November, securing a narrow 1-0 win through an early header from Alexander Isak. The Arsenal boss acknowledged the difficulty of facing Eddie Howe’s side but remained optimistic about his team’s ability to rise to the occasion.
“They [Newcastle] are a very difficult team to play against and there have been different games. We beat them at home last year in a good way.
“Obviously this season has been different with two very different games as well, I think. It’s another opportunity ahead of us, a big one that can take us to Wembley so we are really looking forward to it.”
No Nerves, Just Excitement
Despite the high stakes, Arteta dismissed any notion of nerves creeping into his squad. Instead, he emphasized the excitement and hunger among his players as they approach one of the most crucial games of their season.
“I don’t know if that’s the word, excited for sure, you know, willing, hungry and enthusiastic because we are very close to play a final and hopefully we can achieve it tomorrow.”
Warm-Weather Training Camp in Dubai
Regardless of the result against Newcastle, Arsenal has already planned a warm-weather training camp in Dubai. The team is set to depart on Thursday morning, following in the footsteps of last year’s mid-season visit, which proved pivotal in their campaign. That trip acted as a catalyst for a strong run of form that nearly led to a Premier League title triumph.
Arteta confirmed that the structure of this year’s camp will be similar to the previous one but hinted at some modifications to suit the current needs of the squad.
“There’s a lot of things that will be very similar, location, where we are staying, where we trained, but then obviously we have to modify it.”
“We’re going to be in a different moment of the season, different numbers, probably the team needs other stimulus, other things, so we are preparing a few things, hopefully it will work like it has worked in the last few times.”
Final Push for Wembley
Arsenal fans will be hoping their side can deliver a spirited performance and defy the odds to book a place at Wembley. With confidence high, a roaring away crowd backing them, and the motivation of a cup final within reach, the Gunners are set to go “full gas” in their quest for Carabao Cup glory.

Bayern Munich Enter Race for £50m Arsenal Target

With the summer transfer window approaching, clubs are already strategizing their transfer moves to strengthen their squads for the next season.
One team with a crucial summer ahead is Arsenal, as they continue their push to end their Premier League title drought.
The Gunners are expected to make several major signings, including a striker, midfielder, and winger.
While Alexander Isak is a top target to lead the attack, Arsenal have also made progress in midfield, with Martin Zubimendi reportedly agreeing personal terms for a summer transfer.
For the winger position, Arsenal have been heavily linked with Nico Williams, with reports suggesting the Athletic Club star is close to joining the North London side. However, a new twist in the saga has emerged.
Bayern Munich Enter the Race
Just as Arsenal seemed to be leading the race for Williams, Bayern Munich have now entered the picture.
According to Christian Falk, the German champions are looking to sign the Spanish international as they seek to bolster their attacking options.
With Bayern actively searching for a new winger, Williams has emerged as a prime target.
Interestingly, Bayern’s Leroy Sané has been linked with a move to Arsenal, potentially setting up a transfer domino effect.
This isn’t the first time Arsenal and Bayern have gone head-to-head in the transfer market. Bayern previously tried to sign Declan Rice before he chose Arsenal, while the Gunners were interested in João Palhinha, who ended up moving to Bavaria.
Nico Williams’ Mixed Season
Despite being a highly sought-after player, Williams’ current season has not been his best. After an impressive Euro 2024 campaign, his form has dipped, and he has managed just four goals this season.

---|---|
Games | 23 |
Goals | 4 |
Assists | 5 |
While Arsenal have been tracking Williams for some time, his inconsistency raises questions about whether he is the ideal signing. With a £50m price tag, Arsenal may reconsider their pursuit, as there are other attacking options available in the market.
Williams remains one of the most exciting prospects in the upcoming transfer window, and with Bayern now involved, the race for his signature could become even more competitive.

Frenkie de Jong Nearing Barcelona Contract Extension Amid Resurgence

Barcelona and Frenkie de Jong appear to be moving closer to an agreement regarding his future at the club.
The Dutch midfielder has struggled with persistent injury problems over the last 18 months, impacting his ability to maintain top form.
With his current contract set to expire in 2026, Barcelona faces a crucial decision if he doesn’t sign an extension before the end of the season, he’ll enter the final year of his deal, raising speculation about his next move.
At the start of 2025, De Jong seemed destined for an exit, attracting strong interest from Saudi Arabian clubs as well as Premier League sides.
However, under the guidance of Hansi Flick, he has regained his place in the starting XI, forming a key midfield partnership with Pedri.
As a result, talks over an extension have reignited, and De Jong is now reportedly ready to commit to Flick’s long-term project.
Embracing the No.6 Role
De Jong has now become the anchor in Flick’s midfield, allowing Pedri more freedom to push forward and support the attack.
While some fans may expect him to contribute more in front of goal, the 27-year-old has emphasized that his primary role is defensive.
“I can score or assist goals, but I’m playing as a No.6 now. I move freely, but I’m the most defensive midfielder at Barcelona. You can’t expect me to score 10 goals in a season,” De Jong told Ziggo Sport Voetbal in a recent interview.
He also shared his thoughts on how modern football tends to focus too much on statistics, often failing to capture the full impact of a player’s performance.
“Football today is obsessed with numbers and stats, but they don’t always tell the whole story. A player can have a poor game but still score, or play brilliantly without getting on the scoresheet,” he explained.
Instead, De Jong evaluates his performance based on his ability to break lines, create space, play forward passes, win duels, and control the tempo all of which he considers vital contributions to the team.
With his role clearly defined and his importance to Flick’s system growing, Barcelona and De Jong now seem poised to extend their partnership for the foreseeable future.

Real Madrid ‘preparing summer move’ for Man United star after contract revelation

Real Madrid are reportedly “preparing a summer move” for Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, with the youngster’s future at Old Trafford surrounded by speculation.
The 19-year-old is said to be unhappy with the contract offer currently on the table and is considering a move abroad rather than committing to a new deal with the English club.
While Chelsea have been linked with Mainoo, a transfer to a Premier League rival seems highly unlikely, as United would prefer to sell him to a foreign club if a departure becomes inevitable.
According to Fichajes, Real Madrid are “interested in a summer deal for Mainoo”, viewing him as an ideal addition to their midfield.
The Spanish giants will closely monitor his performances over the next few months, with the teenager expected to return from a muscular injury in early April.
Mainoo has already made 60 appearances for Manchester United, contributing six goals and two assists, but the 2024-25 season has been frustrating.
In 25 matches, he has only recorded one goal and one assist, and he has spent the past month sidelined due to injury.

Manchester United’s financial situation means that tough decisions will have to be made this summer. Given the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules, selling Mainoo would count as pure profit, making his departure a realistic possibility.
While losing a talent of his caliber would be a tough pill to swallow for Red Devils fans, offloading him to Real Madrid rather than a domestic rival could soften the blow.
Would Mainoo Be a Good Signing for Real Madrid?
Real Madrid currently boast a well-stocked midfield, but Luka Modric is set to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Additionally, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga face uncertain futures, with reports suggesting both could be sold if the right offers arrive.
With at least one new midfielder likely to join, Mainoo would be a valuable addition especially alongside fellow England international Jude Bellingham.
However, Manchester United are unlikely to accept offers below £60 million, making it a significant investment for Los Blancos, who are focused on “building a team for the future.”
While there is no doubt about Mainoo’s talent, it remains to be seen whether Real Madrid would be willing to meet United’s financial demands during this summer’s transfer window.
